Highlights of Volunteer...even better
People in Calgary care and they show it with action.
Calgarians volunteer double the amount of the national average. The city is home to more than 5,000 nonprofit organizations. And with a volunteering backbone including 100 years of the Calgary Stampede and almost 25 years of a growing Olympic legacy – ours is a city that volunteers great.
Let's find out if we can volunteer...even better.
- Make every hour count better.
- Make every effort go farther.
- Make every dollar last longer.
TEDxCalgary will act as a catalyst, the speakers will provide the inspiration, you can bring your own motivation and the whole lot of us will leave the room full of determination. By learning from each other's big ideas and inspiring practices, Calgary will continue to lead the country and even the world as the best volunteering community anywhere. Why not aim high?
By learning and adapting, by marshalling resources and by supporting each other our tremendous pool of volunteers, engaged corporate community and innovative nonprofit organizations can accomplish pretty much anything.
Let's do it. Let's volunteer...even better.

What happens in an event?
TEDxCalgary events combine live speakers with pre-recorded TEDTalks, allowing our audience to hear both local voices and important ideas generated internationally by the TED organization.
We're looking for participants!
One of the biggest benefits of live events is the opportunity to actively share your ideas with others, in real time. If you're passionate about ideas, then we know you've got more than a few of your own to share. Our events allow local community members to engage with others during scheduled discussion breaks, and to build connections between people and ideas. You don't just attend... you come to paticipate!
How are speakers selected?
Our speakers are not paid, so they are at the event to share key ideas, and to learn equally from you. The speakers are not the last word on a given subject: they're at the event to help inspire you to learn more, think deeper, and maybe even take up an important cause. We have selected them for their personal accomplishments, and the relevance of their ideas in connection with our event theme.
Why show TEDTalks?
A typical half-day event will also feature 2-3 TEDTalks drawn from the main bank on TED.com, and some of these talks may even feature content from other international TEDx events that have appeared on TED.com. Showing TEDTalks is part of our licencing requirement, but also an important part of extending the breadth of the event: the TED.com bank of videos contains powerful ideas that we want to help amplify to local audiences. All talks are selected for their relevance to the event theme.
