Changes to TEDxCalgary Ning Community
As a number of you have been participants in our online Ning community, we wanted to let you know about some important changes. In short, we will be phasing out the Ning-based community in favour of Facebook, Twitter, and other technologies as of Friday, August 20th. The TEDxCalgary Ning community site will no longer be accessible after this date. Our decision was prompted by the recent changes in the Ning pricing model, but this was not the only factor in our decision. More important was our realization that we may have spread our social media and other online presence a bit thin by not concentrating on a smaller number of key channels that you -- members of our extended community -- tend to use most frequently.
As gadget folks, we value the unique capabilities that various systems bring to our ability to interact online. For its initial purpose of allowing TEDxCalgary participants to connect a bit and build richer dialogue, the Ning community was a great mechanism for this. We thank the Ning folks for building an amazing system, and we wish them well in their ongoing efforts.
Moving ahead, we've decided to focus our volunteer efforts on the main website with additional community-focused enhancements. We bid a fond farewell to Ning, and look forward to seeing our participants engaging with us more on Facebook, Twitter, the main site, and other sites moving forward.
